Home Studio
Do It Yourself
WELCOME!   So you want to put together a home recording studio or are looking to add to what you already have?  I’ve been in your shoes.  I put my first home project studio together several years back, and hopefully some of what I've learned can be useful to you.

For my part, I wanted a studio that would let me record rock songs with a band in a multi-track setting with a fairly high quality of sound.  I am simply a hobbyist - a guy who likes writing songs and working them out in a recording environment.  It's likely that I might have a perspective on home recording that's similar to yours.
Because there are many options when it comes to building a studio and I haven't tried them all,  in many cases I'm summarizing what I see as concensus opinion gathered from reading of many sources.

               IT CAN BE INTIMIDATING

I found the whole process of building my first “real” project studio intimidating.  There were so many options, so many varied opinions, so many ways to bust a budget, and so many people who were professionals who didn’t understand things from a hobbyist viewpoint.  (And as a hobbyist I didn’t understand things from a professional’s viewpoint).

I wanted to be able to do some good recordings in my own time, but I wasn’t going to be able to purchase all the expensive gear that so many of the pros used.  And even worse, I didn't know enough to make educated decisions on what I needed.

So I set about figuring out what I needed to do to both learn how to record and also get good results on a budget.   The information on this site is by no means meant to be comprehensive, but I’ve tried to concisely summarize what I’ve learned to help save folks some time and get down to making great music.
