                Monitoring when Mixing

Once your tracks are recorded, then you have to go about mixing the tracks - setting levels and applying effects across tracks and the entire mix.

I don’t recommend mixing by headphone, but some do.  I do suggest getting a decent pair of monitors for this job.  In my experience it’s harder to hear the mix accurately in headphones - and one of the goals is to create a mix that sounds consistent across many different audio systems.  Good monitors can help in this.

Another reason I recommend monitors instead of headphones for mixing is that it’s easy to spend days mixing and re-mixing tracks and I don’t think you’ll want to do that by headphones unless you have too.  Here are some popular monitor options  you may want to consider.
